Dealer Closings Update

Interesting article from Automotive News about dealership closings in 2009. According to the article, nearly 1,500 dealerships had closed through the end of October, the worst showing on record. That left the U.S. new-car dealership total at just over 18,600 facilities, with another 200 or so expected to close by the end of the year.

The article also noted that new-car sales fell 37 percent from the end of 2007 through the end of 2009! To put that into perspective, the average dealership sold 771 cars in 2007 and only 551 this year.
