A couple of interesting tidbits in Automotive News. Seems auto dealers in the U.S. recorded their worst profits ever in 2008, a mere 1.0 percent of sales. And that’s after a net profit of only 1.5 percent in 2007. Kind of hard to keep that up for too long.
Also interesting was a brief interview with VW CEO Martin Winkerhorn in which he said that the “era of safe and affordable electric cars for everyday use ‘is very, very far away.'” Winkerhorn told Automotive News that internal combustion engines will be the primary powerplant for cars for at least the next 15 to 20 years.
