More on Obama’s Car Plan

According to this article, the state of California’s greenhouse gas emissions rules for cars would lead to a fleet-wide mileage average of 35.7 mpg by 2016 and 42.5 mpg by 2020. In case you’re wondering, the complete list of current vehicles that would meet the latter standard reads like this:

Toyota Prius (48 mpg city/45 highway)
Honda Civic Hybrid (40 mpg city/45 highway)
Guess Americans can say goodbye to pickups and SUVs!

    The rules for fleet averages is going to be even tougher in Europe. Hybrid diesels will be the short term solution for larger vehicles.
