We’ll have a full report in the May issue of National Oil & Lube News, but Midas International has acquired SpeeDee Oil Change & Tune-Up’s main franchisor organization. You can read more here. I’m sure there are many reasons for the acquisition, but the long and short of it appears to be the continued blurring of the fast lube business into the general automotive maintenance business. Is the lube industry destined to return to the “garage” concept they were formed in response to? And how will customers respond to longer and longer service times? Interesting questions.
