Comparison Shopping

Received a flyer from Midas at home the other day. They’re advertising an oil change (regularly $32.99) for $19.99. Includes up to five quarts of oil, battery test, fluid level inspection, tire rotation, wiper blade check, and lights/hoses/belts inspection. Doubt they’re making any money off that, but it’ll likely lure some shoppers. They also offered a “Spring Trip Package” which includes oil change, new air filter, wiper blades, tire rotation, brake inspection and shock/strut inspection for $69.99.

The really interesting thing about the flyer, though, was on the back. The ad offered automotive fluid services a la cart. The fluid services available are: radiator fluid change; brake fluid change; transmission fluid change; and power steering fluid change. “Pick 1” was offered for $79.99; “Pick 2” was offered for $149.99; “Pick 3” for $209.99; and “Pick 4” for $249.99. Not a bad way to package services together and leave the choice up to the consumer.
